Thanks to Hanbury for a really good game. A win for the Mutated Rats! If you looked at the table you would have thought it a massacre by the state of my army and the number of rats left. Thankfully on the count up it was (as I had hoped) actually a great deal closer. Some great lessons for me to take away!
Pete beat me fair and square, I can't blame the dice: they were running lucky for me yesterday.

My biggest mistake was frogetting the "Waaargh!", I should have treated the Orc infantry just the same as Tomb Kings, I didn't and consequently I was charged on turn 2.
Orcs and goblins make for a good, versatile and fun army, unpredictably fast moving and tough infantry blocks backed up by fast cavalry that tick all the boxes, Orcs are very good at ruining a general's plans and ensuring a fun game.

Man of the match is the Doom-diver who's body can be found tangled up in the remains of my Battle Standard bearer.
On my side the man of the match has to be the Daemon Prince of Khorne locked up inside the Bloodskull Pendant: it killed everything it could reach.

In this game 18 of my ignoble Warriors perished, thus leaving me at 239 devotees of Slaanesh raising hell in the south, although ironically they have yet to face a classically "good" aligned army...
I got massacred (again) but Tom played a very sporting and enjoyable game. In this game 15 more Slaanesh Warriors perished, thus leaving me at 224. I should've put life insurance on these guys! Wink

It all went horribly wrong when the dice gods decided they didn't want to see a game of maneuvering, they wanted slaughter! And that's what they got after the Wardancers rolled 12 for their over-run. It was my own fault really though: I thought the dogs were further away from the Marauders than they really were.

Famous Last words
Sorcerer: "A challenge? I accept!"
Slaanesh Exhalted Hero: "Shoot me more, I love it!"

A note on Wood Elves: Wood Elves have been a challenging but by no means unbeatable army for my Skaven, Daemons, and now for my Warriors, I think it says a lot of good things about the Wood Elf army design that they're not unbeatable or useless against any army (unless the table's rammed full of forests, but that's another story).
An excellent game all around for all concerned

Final scores - Tom 24 points, Mike 24 points, Vaughn "Orcslayer" 24 and Andrew 13 points

Ok so maybe not Andrew with his cowardly Chaos warriors Wink
1st of all, I'd like to say it's a real shame we wont see much of Pete anymore (maybe once a year?), he's a friendly guy and a worthy foe, a perfect combination for Warhammer.

I guess I'll never live that down... In hindsight it would have been better (on every level) to let the warriors heroically die on Grimgor's axe than to spend the game hiding behind the Dark Elves, but let me explain how it all went wrong:

The plan was that either Vaughan or me were going to flank-charge Grimgor Ironhide's unit: Grimgor is deadly and charging doesn't help 'cause he always strikes 1st.

Then suddenly and unexpectedly Pete's Night-goblins were in charge range too! (typical greenskin animosity) so when they both charged my Warriors they fled the wrong way, Grimgor pursuing the wrong way, leaving him and his Black-orcs still facing the Black-guard head on!

Oh yes: predictably, I fought as many battles with my Dark-Elf allies as I did with the Orcs Big Grin but he started it! Angel

End results: The game was lots of fun. I gathered 4 treasures (all in the one Chariot) but I scored the lowest points among all participants, and I also lost 16 more Warriors: now 208 remain.
Unfortunately you seemed to pickup all the duff counters so I'm sorry about that Sad

The Waagh on turn 2 definetly scuppered a few plans, it made most of my army leg it due to fleeing as a reaction!
Argh! Well that was a learning experience and a half, massacred again! And now 201 of my loyal warriors remain.

Those Dark Elf magic items are very strong, I'm used to the executioners + always-strike 1st banner + cauldron bonus now, and I like to think I know how to beat it. But that 5- ward is insanely good: it would be worth taking even if it cost the full 100 points... but it was the ring-of-miscasts which really did me in, what made it worse is that I didn't realise a unit champion could carry it: so I actually thought I was safe once the Sorcerer was run off the board.

The Dragon in action is everything I hoped it would be, shame I wasn't the one using it last night, but I will certainly take one in future!

Now I know your tricks Vaughan, so next time we play you'll find it more of a challenge.
A horrific massacre to Chaos, my army was soundly thrashed on the flanks by the Chaos Knights while the rest of the Chaos army contained the rest of my troops and took it out unit by unit

By the end only the surprisingly hitty Flagellants survived along with some lonely archers

Indeed, I badly underestimated those Flaggelants! Thanks to them, and a shot from the grenade launcher which didn't miss, I lost 16 Warriors; bringing me down to 185.
A glorius victory for the Empire as the pesky Bretonnians were gradually outflanked and hit on all sides in a carefuly laid plan. It was like Cannae, but not especially

Ahem...

As a bonus every knight on the field perished leaving the Bretonnian peasants free from tyranny and ready to work for the remainder of their squalid little lives in the Imperial forges, we do pay them though, a bit. Not much though, they are only peasants

Freedom!

Yeah all 493 points of peasants lived to work another day on the fields for half of a loaf of bread......
Chaos v Chaos and quite predictably: Chaos won!

'Twas a good game and Nat played the Chaos Warriors well, but I did a good job too and the dice were more on my side than his: okay, my Khorne bsb on juggernaught should have made at least one armour save, but I've never seen someone roll more miscasts than Nat did today.

End result: a solid victory for my warriors, but with 9 warriors not living to fight another day I now have just 176 left.
Michael (Yargalt)’s Empire vs Dark Elves: we agreed a minor win to the dark elves (despite them still being massively outnumbered when the dust cleared, and there was a significant amount of dust)!

We played 1999 pts with the pesky humans attempting to storm the Druchii's towers. They only made it to the outskirts when they were confronted by a garrison consisting of fast moving dark riders, shades and harpies and the city guard plus two hydras, one of which carried the elves sacrificial cauldron.

The forces of Franz were vast! Over a hundred models were attempting to storm the keep, three war machines and three units of heavy cavalry together with near unlimited units with handguns, crossbows, bows and pistols.

The artillery struggled throughout the whole game, cannon balls flew too far, fell too short and just simply bounced off the elves. They were enough of a threat though to cause the black guard to remain cautiously out of sight behind a hill. At one point the order to march over the hill came from the Tower Master, it was met sternly with “but serge have you seen the cannon…” a simple glare was returned with the unspoken words “they are only human, now move it”.

The hydra eat through the whole of the right flank, breathing fire and surviving cannons and massed shooting. Man after man fled from its path.

After six turns each, the game had begun to swing towards the defenders, the will of man having been virtually broken. In a theoretical turn 7, the hydra survived 7 archers, 10 pistols, a cannon ball (which hit) and 10 handguns, it was left limping on a single wound. My magic defense in the form of a scroll caddy on a horse had also been harassed out of her hiding place and ventured into the middle of the board, doing absolutely nothing.

A fun game with some poor luck for the humans especially in the performance of the cannons (although they didn’t misfire).
The Slaanesh Noble wondered if he'd turned up to the wrong battle-field today: without their famed artillery the Empire army didn't stand much chance against the Hordes of Chaos.

In the end I scored a massacre, but it was closer than expected several times during the game, in fact if my Lord hadn't passed 2 break tests in a row I'd might have lost by a huge margin instead.

Only 2 warriors died today but that's 'cause I only had 5 on the table to begin with.., so this week I'm counting Marauders too for a mighty 60 kills.
So now I have 116 left. Big Grin
An interesting game, the dragon was just to damn tough to be hurt by the Knights while its rider popped in at a massive T5 with a 2+ Save, good luck hurting him. On the plus side, he's stuck with him for the rest of the campaign (mwuhahaha)

Some good luck on Andrews part and some rather generous leadership bonuses given to me to make up for no cannons meant it was always going to be a win as long as the lord lived. Though having said that he did nearly leg it twice in a row, a unit of knights charging in suffered only a single wound to the champion and won via combat res by several points thanks to the challenge. Then my lord charged in and got eaten, 3 wounds, not a single save made despite his 1+ armour save... typical.

The pistoliers sacrificed themselves very bravely, charging into the flanks of a chariot to stop it charging, breaking it despite suffering 3 wounds and then trying to do the same to the other chariot... didnt work but at least the fleeing one ran some people over.

The saddest part of the game was seeing a unit of knights led by the BSB pincered viciously between the Lord and some Chaos Doggies and running like girls... except they automatically died thanks to the reach of the lords flight (fight or flight response for the knights, had to roll for it as was a tough choice to make, the knights ran but it set up the lords failed charge on the general which could have swung it...)

Biggest mistake - Not taking the Wyrmslayer Sword and customising magic items a bit more, no need for any magic defense at all so had the points spare
