‘By the Throne! Get me down there you worthless piece…’ Captain Ilatar Valeris Frater of the 6th Company of the Ultramarines stopped yelling as Brother-Sergeant Algeron led his team to the Thunderhawk, and Sergeant Gabriel Malignus Brutus led his assault team into the Teleported. The sound of the Teleporter quietened his rage.
+’Brother-Captain this is scout squad Cestus we have discovered the enemy. They are indeed Xenos as suspected.’ We are Aaaargh!’+ The Sergeants scream cut over the vox like a knife.
‘Brother-Captain to Cestus respond!’ Stepping into the Teleporter in the blessed Tactical Dreadnought Armour of his chapter the Captain felt a great concern for his brothers in Cestus Squad. No response came to his command. ‘Squad Gladius what can you see?
+’ Squad Cestus is now standing before the Emperor. Glory to his name.+’
‘What happened?’ Ilatar looked at the servitors aiding the Tech priest in the invocations to activate the teleporter.
+’Snipers from the cover a distant wood brother,’+
‘Foul Xenos we shall make them pay.’
+’Brother-captain we have made contact we can see foul abominations approaching us. Records indicate they are Wraithguard.’+ Sergeant Gabriel’s voice echoed in the comm.-node in his ear.
‘We are on our way brother. Blessings of the Emperor.’
+‘Blessings of th…’+ The communication cut half way, Looking around him Ilatar saw the 1st Company Veterans escorting him take up positon. The time for vengeance had come. Each one checked their weapons and prepared for battle.
Looking at the central chamber Ilatar’s eyes fell on the flag of the Ultramarine’s Chapter. A sense of calm came over him as he realised that he was not some simple commander of a guard unit but a proud brother of the Adeptus Astartes. Not only was he a Beloved son of the Emperor but he was a Captain. He listened as the great Teleporter began to activate. It was the Xenos turn to pay for his brother’s death.

Battle report for 10/02/09
Davel versus Shame 1250 points battle.
Davel won initiative and we began set up. After I deployed my troops and revealed my infilitrators Davel revealed his, Strikking scorpions and pathfinders versus my Scouts. The Mission was to recover three objectives and we deployed in a spear head deployment. Unfortunately I was not able to seize initiative.
Turn one.
Straight away Davel Turbo-boosted his farseer on a bike up after he had cast fortune on himself. His scorpions were hidden in a building in the centre of the board. On my side of the table his Pathfinders waited patiently. But not for long. The Prism cannons twink linked their fire and destroyed my Predator in one shot. The Pathfinders opened up on my scouts killing three straight away fortunately my Sergeant held his cool (Rolled a 9, so not so cool.) My own men were deployed over two buildings and inside the Rhino. Moving up I did not disembark tactical squad. The Scouts who had been shot in turn fired at the Scorpions. One of the squad fell to a heavier bolter. Next my scouts opened up and claimed another one. The Scorpions had gone from a unit of seven to five.
Turn two.
This turn Davel moved his men up towards my position. I controlled no markers and he was in position to claim two. But instead he claimed two more of my Scout squad. I disembarked my tactical squad and my Rhino took a potshot at the Falcon grav tank. With a lucky hit I destroyed one of the prism cannons. Once more my snipers fired at his Scorpions and one more died. The first of my deep striking squads arrived Terminators who landed on a building.
Turn three.
Dave began with almost turning his full force on my assault terminators. After whitling them down to two men he used bladestorm from his Dire avenger and I died after rolling eighteen dice and getting two 1’s. My scouts fired at the striking scorpions but the cover they occupied denied my shots.
Turn four.
With two of my squads dead and a blessed predator I was hurting. Moving my Tactical sqad to the third marker Davel moved his force towards the second while holding the third. Fortunately for me my Vangaurd squad arrived and declared a heroic intervention into the scorpions. It was five marine veterans with two power weapons versus his striking scorpions. Fortune favoured the Marines and I wiped out the squad leaving the second objective in play.
Turn five.
Davel incurred the wrath of the warp when he failed to cast doom but the Farseers wargear saved him. Moving his squads up Davel’s Prism fired at my Rhino but without its partner in crime the deviation was too great. My Captain and second squad of terminators arrived and they let full volley fly at the Farseer claiming 2 of his bike squad. My tactical squad let loose as well as they had stood still. (foolishly I didn’t know the rule about variable length games in the new edition and I failed to wound except with my missile launcher
Turn six.
The roll of the dice came my way and we had another turn. Moving his bike force up The Farseer doomed my vanguard who were down to 4 men after a dangerous terrain test. Fortunately for me the building I was lurking in was short of windows. However he did get some shots off but with no effect. On the other side of the battle My captain had advanced and now he faced the Wraithguard. Luckily I had given him Hellfire rounds so he and the Assault cannon laid out half the unit.
Turn Seven.
Once again luck would have it and we had another round. Moving his farseer up to deny me the third objective with his bike unit. I moved my Vanguard up and denied his first objective. However thanks to the marines now being deployed with pistols I made a full attack on his Farseer and won through on a war of attrition. Finally Faced with the destruction of his bodyguards the Farseer turned to flee but was caught by my Squad who were now in control of the only objective. Having half his command whithered away by sneaky and stealthy Xenos the Captain ordered a charge into the Enemy Wraithguard. The warlock and remaining Wraithguard tried to withstand the assault but it was to no avail. Thus victory came to the marines.
Thanks to Davel for a cracking game. (My 5th game with the new edition.)
