Hi all,
a couple of us where talking about this earlier in the month, now befor I go off and bye my self the rule book and a small Roman force, I was wondering who else is up for it?
ps - will be purchasing stuff from Warlord games on/ just after payday if people are just after a little bit (£100 = free postage)
While tempted I really cant afford to buy any more armies these days and I'm running out of room to store em...
I can lend you a pdf of the rules if you want and I can proxy things if you want though

Take a look at
Armies of Arcana as well, while a fantasy system it allows you to easily create your own units and armies so you'd be able to use it for historical games
Was quite interested in this, but again no money...
Was either going to do Classical Hellenistic (hoplites, peltasts and crap cavalry) or Diadochi (post-Macedonian pike phalangists, Companion cavalry, Silver Shields etc.)
Any chance of getting the rules as well? Is everything in the same rulebook or different armies have their own special rules?
By the way, quick clarification, was it Warhammer Ancients or Warmaster Ancients?
PS May turn into an FAQ, sorry.
The rulebook contains rules for Romans and Barbarians
id be interested in a crack at that when is payday?

Last working day of the month (Fri 29th)
Romans and Barbarians?! Those are both such cool armies, but, in completely different ways...
So tempted, so very tempted, but there's not much of a scene for historical stuff, or is there?
I think everyone is really just waiting for someone else to jump in, its a never ending circle of waiting
well I've started - ordered a small roman army - should have it in about a fortnight
Don't like to advertise another club, but...
There is a thriving WAB contingent at Clapham Wargamers. A couple of guys took them to the Club Challenge recently, and a few others have armies for knock-about games. Range from Egyptian to Saxon to Normans, so there's lots of variation. If you can find the site, they've put some brief batreps up under the Game Results > CC results thread, they'll give a brief flavour of the game.
I do like the look of it - it's basically WFB without all the tricks and WAAC-ness that can come out of magic and magic items. Ld stats seem to be generally lower, and if your general dies it's pretty much game over, so it seems to be a very tactical sort of game as you lose stuff more from psychology than it being killed.
Sadly I'm completely skint ATM so my girlf has informed me that I may like a new army, but I'm also fond of my b*llocks, and this is kind of a a 'one or the other' deal.
well got half way through assemling my EI Romans then got side tracked by Warmachine
but if others start asking / playing I'm sure i'll finsh putting them together

Guys be aware this is a new version of WAB due out some time - not sure on the date.
Also WAB is not just like WFB - its like WFB 5th edition so NOT like the current 7th edn. I used to play this a lot and in period its a great system.
Yeah I've heard this about WAB. Armies advanced in years of others are (obviously) a bit of a pain in the rear to take on.
I would be interested in taking part in some classic era gaming. Failing that the Arthur book looks appealing to me. I think I could use the Warlords celts as Scots/Irish stand ins. Though having looked at the romans, I REALLY want to collect some lol.
No idea what the lists are like yet but I want to base it around some praetorians, loving the models.
nepalese ninja, if you are the guy running tanelorn, I believe we met not too long ago. I came for a 'tour' of your club but only played the 40k system whilst there. I would have been the one asking how to get back to Hackney lol. Came with some red and cream space marines.
What armies do you play in this system (if you still do)?
I know a few guys who play this at Clapham and love it. The whole 'a new book is coming' thing is sadly getting old now - it's been awaited for over a year. Mind you, as there are now solid rumours of the new Dark Eldar book on the horizon, I guess anything is theoretically possible...
Anyway, when they do come the rules aren't expected to change a huge amount; think tinkering and tidying-up rather than wholesale changes requiring new purchases.
I have an Archaemenid Persian army painted. Havent played for ages. In fact I have not played using the relevant army book as rules for my APs.
I do have an unassembled, unpainted Macedonian army as well (Alexander the Great).
You can see which period I am interested in cant you.
Also love the Roman Empire. Also love the Cornwell Arthurian stuff ie Dark Ages.
