Seems cheap, but very soon you want it all. I've played one game, and I'm already totally hooked!

Now you're talking. I have a lot of inquisitor acolytes and highly converted guardsmen minis that would probably pass for anything SF and gun totting. Good for an into game/force I'm sure.

And I know what you mean. But it's not like I'm going to have to aim for a 1750pt GW tyranid horde army, to just get going with what I fancy... at least this is my assumption, from what I can tell a 15 model army is not too rubbish?

A 15 model army is too big. Aim for 10 - it's a single order group (that's why the game is addictive, £30 armies!)

Welcome btw! Wink

Are members adverse to newbs turning up with no standing challenge, but a lot of questions?

I'm always open to do an introductionary game etc., but so are most of the WM/H players in my experience!

Oh, how wrong you will find that statement to be! Wink

Infinity, Malifaux and Warmahordes are by and a way the most popular games at the club, though you will always find someone to play at 40k. Less so WFB, maybe if GW updates it again so the rules don't suck arse big style... still there are a fair few of us with armies sitting on standby.

If you are interested in an introductory game of Infinity then I will be glad to oblige, I'd quite like to get everyone at the club playing it tbh, it's the best system out there by far!

Welcome to the club and hope to see you soon. Big Grin

This is what I like to hear... what with all that credit crunching and GW prices rising. The models are particularly neat to. I will have to get reading the threads. I am not going to be in town for a couple of weeks, so that's lots of time for lurking.

Thanks for a warm welcome everyone Smile .
I have a 250 point Pan-O Knightly Orders list (250-300 points is the average for a decent full sized game - kinda the 1500pt mark of 40k I guess)... it has a mere 9 models in it. All amazing sculpts too!
Also, the rulebook is free if you download the pdf form from the infinity website, and there is a fantastic, easy to use army builder online too!

Oh, I thought I would include this link as it is a lot easier to understand the rules here, some of the official rules translations are a bit awkward to say the least, but all make sense here:

Infinity is a glorious system; it's taken a lot of willpower to not join in, to be honest, especially as it's booming in the club again at the moment. There are so many interesting possibilities with the system in that it's not a typical wargame, more a covert ops game, and that's what draws me to it, as it well as the beautiful miniatures, naturally.

Anyway, welcome to the club guys.

Yeah, to be clear, it's a very cheap game to get in to. Download the free rules and buy a starter box and a couple of blisters, and you'll have a fieldable force for under £40.

Of course with a game or two under your belt you will suddenly be filled with ideas for how you can improve your little force by spending lots of money (and see lots of new toys you want to play with!), but you don't HAVE to in order to stay competitive.
It's not like 40k where you're basically dead before you start unless you went out and bought three of those £40 tanks to supplement the £300's worth of infantry you invested in before you fully understood the game.

The infinity adage is "it's not your list, it's YOU!". The game is very well balanced, and so you can make what you have work for you, and win with it.
Obviously with certain choices you will make your life easier or more difficult, but infinity isn't an *uberlist* type of game.
If you take that really expensive world ending figure it won't guarantee the win. In fact, it may be a disadvantage to start off, because you will be leaving yourself short elsewhere, and your opponent will have more tactical possibilities than you. This leaves the pressure on you to make that figure work for its points.

To look at it from the other point of view, if you go heavy on Hackers and find yourself against Ariadna with very little hackable tech, your basically beaten before you start, right? Wrong! Sure, you're at a disadvantage as you've spent loads of points on gimmicks you won't really be able to press an advantage with.
But all those hackers are basically now just expensive infantrymen who cost too much points for what they're going to do, but can still shoot and kill stuff. If you know how to play the game well you're in with a chance, even though your list isn't going to perform to its strengths. It's up to you to play to yours.

At least the above is my understanding, having played one game and done a bit of reading Wink.

Sounds fun though, doesn't it? I bet you can see why it's getting so popular amongst the disillusioned players of "buy more stuff or loose like a motherfucker" games.
Just a quick hi to all the latest posters Smile
Look forward to catching up with you all down the club at some stage if I havent already.

That sounds about right to me Mertaal! Big Grin

ok, I'll drop in tomorrow and have a look at the Club live. Any VIP I should find/talk to?
Just look for any committee member if you're lost, otherwise just enjoy yourself. Smile
Hi All,

I am a new prospective member, and wanted to drop in and say hi!

My name is Paul, I am 35 years old, from North London, married to a long suffering and very patient (and confused) wife who doesn't quite get the fact that I like to paint and play with little soldiers - although some of the miniatures look "cute"...I spend most of my time between work, and struggling to secure a tiny section of my (wife's) house to do my painting. I have a cat named Olorin, who likes the taste of GW foundation paints, and who seems to get a thrill out of the sound plastic miniatures make when he swipes them off the table and skitters them across the wooden floor. My painting skills are apparently not up to his expectations however, and he has made it clear that he believes that I am need of his personal assistance.

I am reliably informed that I am a Geek...albeit a bit of an old one, and that I need to find a group of "my own kind of people" that share my hobbies...I believe that its part of a complex ruse to get me out of the house.

I have quite a few years of various types of gaming under my belt. I am bored of Warhammer and GW and general, and are looking for something new and exciting. I have recently been switched on to Infinity. I have started a small Yu Jing, Japanese Sectoral Army force because I love a challenge and...no seriously, the models just look awesome! I am also looking to get into WarmaHordes, but don't have anything purchased as yet.

Looking forward to joining you guys one night soon, and hope to get an introductory game with some patient and ruthless soul, looking to soundly annihilate the new boy.

Paul
Hi Paul and welcome aboard. Smile
For all the different games see the Discussion forums. You can get someone to play a demo with you and find more info on the games there. You can then book your games at the club in the Challenges forum. Or you can just turn up and have pint, chat about stuff and maybe get a game in if there are any other chancers.

Infinity is a great system, you will find it a great break away from the good old fashioned gw gaming concepts. Look forward to seeing you down the club and on the other side of the table. Smile
Welcome Paul! Two things: at 35 you are not 'old' you're probably sitting on one of the many different averages, and there are definitely a few people around here who'd call you a whippersnapper... Also, we're all very definitely geeks!

Infinity has a good strong following, look forward to seeing you across the table at some point. Also at some point I'm sure you'll either catch a warmachine or malifaux addiction as well!
Welcome fella! Big Grin
Always good to see a new Infinity player in the midst! It has picked up a lot lately and I'm glad to say the club has a good deal of players from all factions.
Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies and welcomes - will see if I can scare up a game later (once my list is sorted).

Paul

@TheIdleVagrant - Welcome to the club. You will find infinity well catered for here, and we are also in the process of getting new stuff for the infinity boards as well, so that there is a suitable amount of terrain. Warmachine and Hordes is the most popular game, and the guys who play this as their main game (myself included) will all be happy to give out intros, and they will probably be gentle too (though I do not garantee it). Get over to the challenge thread and post up what you want to play, or want an intro, and someone will pop th

@Misty5 - Welcome to the club. While WFB and 40k are not the most popular at the club, there are always a few games around. I know that they are running a 40k campaign at the moment, and there was talk about a fantasy campaign (I was been tempted back to my skaven, but have resisted). Warmachine and Hordes is going great guns, and like TheIdleVagrant above, just post up if you want an intro, people are always happy to help out. Malifaux is a bit quiet at the moment due to infinity been on the rise, and the slow grow Warmachine/Hordes slow grow league going at the moment, but there are still people looking for games, and intros are available too (speak to CunningStunt/Aidan about these, he is a henchman now I believe). I also expect Malifaux to pick up in about 2-3 months once we have all had a break. We had about 20 people playing last autumn at it's peak, but we have all got a little burnt out.
