Hi there, I've decided to take a totally different army to the GT this year, I'm resting my usually stalwart Dwarves, and giving a force with some movement a chance. I'm pretty happy with the army as a whole, but think I might be robbing my troops of valuable booster points in favour of strong characters, see what you think:

Archmage (Lv3)
Floariaths robes
Ring of fury
Jewel of dusk 325

Dragon Mage (Lv1)
Silver wand
X2 Dispell scrolls 400

Noble
Great Eagle
Dragon armour
Enchanted shield
Reaver bow
Spear 193

With 918 pts total, that is almost half my army allowance, and so some units contain nothing but basic troops. Any ideas?

Also if you had 10 pts to play with and could give a musician to either a unit of Lions or Reavers, bearing both units currenly hold only basic troops, which one would you give the musician to?
The dragon mage is too vulnerable in todays tournament environment, a good round of elf shooting and the rider will die. Also if you are going 2 wizards you need to boost the levels of magic.

Most non daemon GT armies involve a lot of shooting as it is the best way to deal with daemons. ALso the noble should have a lance instead of a spear. I would give the musician to the lions as the reavers will not last more than 3 turns.

If you want i can give you a game next week against my GT list.
I agree, the GT is no place for the D.Mage.

Bring your list to the club and take on Mitch. He'll show you why its a bad idea. Smile

I'd rather take the star dragon list with 2 level 2's backing him up - but that's just because it suits my style of play.
Now, I don't know High Elves toooooo well, but I know what I hate coming up against in a High Elf army when using my Chaos Warriors.

1st: Swordmasters
Dragon Armour (because of HE's it's not safe to take flaming attack magic weapons)
8+ levels of magic
Lots of/well defended Shooting

I would like to know what basic units you've chosen.

A common and quite strong HE list has core units as archers, characters as wizards, at least 1 nasty unit of swordsmasters to deter attacks on the archers (the only thing worse than hitting swordmasters head on is to be flank-charged by them) some fast units, and then a few points spent on fun stuff like magic banners/bolt throwers, or upgrading archers to sea-guard.
I love facing swordmaster with DE's as it is free vps for them, like BG when playing a civil war. Dragon Princes are good but 2 units is enough to be a problem.

A standard list is

Star Dragon
Caddy
Battle Banner, BSB

2 units of 10 Archers
5 Princes
9 Princes, Lion Std
2 RBTs
2 Eagles
That's about right tbh.
