Hey all,

just wanted to put this out there for you all.

Some of you may know that PP have just released Monsterpocalypse. The game of giant monsters smashing up a city, and each other. Those of you who met me last night probably established I like PP... a lot... maybe too much...

I'm keen to get into the game in a big way, its a Beer and Pretzels game, but with the depth of Warmachine. If you need to know more head to: http://monsterpocalypsegame.com/ for more info.

Suffice to say I'm keen to establish a small group of semi regular players who are happy to trade as I can't afford a full set at the mo (its around £160 for two cases of boosters, enough to score each unit at least once).

I'm after the Cthul and my missus wants the Godzilla types, so if anyone else wants in then let me know and we can start organising picking up the bits needed, and getting trades underway to get some nice faction forces together.

Note the game is blind packaged, but all units can be fielded in one force, its just theming gives a slight advantage, and looks cooler. Starter kit is about £17 and includes all the rules, dice, maps needed, plus four units, two buildings and one random monster booster (One monster plus its mega form). Boosters are about £8-10 depending on where you get them and include one monster/mega form or four units and a building depending on booster type.

Let me know folks...

Jon.
i might give it a go, would like to see the rules first though

Rules are downloadable from the monpoc website.

I picked it up yesterday with the missus and we had a couple of intro style games last night. No power moves yet (we are still learning) so killing monsters took a while, but the core rules are sound, the units are fun and the scale is amazing when you see the size of them.

Orcs nest is out of starters but Forbidden Planet had loads when we went in. If you shake the core set and it rattles there is a plastic cube in there that is to disguise the weight of the lighter figures like the aliens/ninja people, so if you want the bigger factions (Dinos/Destroyers/Cthul) listen for no rattle.

Will post some pics later. Quality out of the box is really good. Of course I ma already planning a repaint for the UFOs I scored. Wish I got a Cthul chappie, but I can see Ebay being my friend going forward.

Regards.

Jon.
Ok, here are some shots of the models straight from the box.
Each core set (£17) contains the following:

by the way, these guys are big! Way bigger than I thought based on the initial pics. Will get a scale pic up later.

1x Monster/1x Monster Hyper form

As you can see the quality of the paint work is really very good for PPP. I'm more keen on the Destroyers, due to the cool shading and detail, but both are of a good standard. Sad to see the gold splashes on the thigh of the Destroyer though...

PP rules state you can't use repaints or mods in tourneys, but I'm not happy with the look of my UFOs so will be modding them in the near future. Will probably base them up with some ruins too. Not like there are many PP tourneys in the UK at the mo.

Also in the core set is the following units and buildings:

A bit of an eclectic selection, but teaches you combat/shooting/flying and other core rules. Two buildings give you the foundations of your city. You immediately want more bulidings though ,as smashing them down boosts your power a lot.
Sam and I (my missus) also bought a unit booster to add a bit of numbers to the game. As Sam pulled the Destroyer (crab guy) the booster we got was really in her favour. Three more Destroyer units, two of whom are elite versions... Still, another core UFO for me and a new building is all good.

The rules of force building are that all units can be fielded regardless of alignment. However, matching unit to monster gives you cheaper summon costs. (Units start the game off board and can be infinitley brought back as you go.

So, that's a brief look at what the quality of stuff is like. Hopefully this will catch the eye of some of you. We spent £43 and got the two starters, plus the extra stuff. That's enough for a good game, but of course we want to theme our forces to the factions we really want (Dinosaurs and Cthul) so I imagine I will be scouring EBay to secure the bits we want.

Just to let people know, there are two monsters for each faction (each with one base form and two Hypers, good luck getting the alt forms though, they are all comp prizes etc.) Then there are six units. Two of the units are core/elite though ,using the same models with a different paint scheme. So, four unit models, six variations. Not a huge amount, but seeing as you can use anything in each force it makes for a decent sized amount of variation.

well it took me less than 24 hours and I have already repainted a Monpoc fig. I guess PPP just doesn't work for me and I feel the need to amend all the models I buy...

Paint doesn't take brilliantly, but it got there in the end. Looks a lot better, although not great. Still, a bit of fun and will give my aliens a different look.
Trying to get started in Monpoc as I love the concept, the minis and the game. Charing X is also really convenient for me, so are people out there playing this? I only have the starter set and a Sky Sentinel at the moment but will have more stuff soon. Please email me if any games are scheduled.

thanks
Sam is making noises about Monpoc and I would like to see more folks playing it.
My missus actually made noises about becoming a Monpoc Press Ganger yesterday which made me chuckle. You never know, London may get a second PGr.

I'd be up for some demo gaming, will be in touch.

I'm keen to pick up some more Monpoc stuff and start bulking out my second faction, so if people want to get on board with this for trading purposes I'd be happy.

Cheers.
Jon.
I just got my first starter rise set. I want to start!!! Big Grin A second Press Ganger would be great too!

My first starter rise set is still on its way over so probably not going to arrive by next Tuesday, otherwise I'd challenge you to a game. Or maybe I just bring my Sky Sentinel and we share units? We still need to learn the game I guess!

I would be really up for that. Hopefully you will get your starter set before tuesday. We could help eachother learn the basics.

What monster did you get in the box Sam?

If not this Tuesday, then the next one for sure. Book it!
Had to pick it up today from the post office but here it is. Got a Zor-Maxim which is very fortunate as I'm building Shadow Sun and recently also won an auction for a Zor-Raiden! So now I have both. It's too late for me to go to the club today but next week anybody? I will do a few solo games to get a better understanding of the rules.

Gaaahhh How did you get the Cthul? I have been trying to get them and all I get is Martians and stuff for my Sam! I really hoped you would be looking to trade your Cthul away, no such luck...

You bringing your stuff down tonight?

Unfortunately I did not make it down last night as Andres could not make it it would of made the Hordes/Warmachine players un-even in terms of getting games. So I bowed out only to return this coming tuesday and raze some cities!

Might well be up for some Monpoc fun. Will try to bring Sam again as she has a habit of thrashing me in the game.

Will put up a trade thread with my spares and what I am looking for as I am feeling a bit of a thing for Monpoc again and might well start buying again.

Cheers.
Jon.
Seems I'll have lots of stuff before Tuesday as I've been buying lots of singles. Please bring all you have so maybe we can do some trading.

I won't have much to trade =(. But am prepared to buy at reasonable prices. Cuthulu and Dino's.

Sam
Just proxied some buildings on pieces of paper for Tuesday, this gives me 10 buildings total. They look ugly but the game is not the same if played on a parking lot instead of a busy metropolis. So, if you have the time, please make a few before Tuesday. Thanks
