Hello All,
I was talking to a few members last night about the terrain situation at the club. At the moment some pieces are in a sorry state. Rest assured that the commitee is aware of this and at the moment we are putting into action our plans of terrain renewal and the creation of new terrain. There are also plans to split the terrain into themed table boxes, so you have a nice set up.
If you have any questions then feel free to pm myself or any of the other commitee members.
Marcus
Great stuff.
How's the Anaphelion base coming along? Are there still plans to run special missions on the top table using it?
*Oops, sorry - just realised that I probably shouldn't have posted that here. Feel free to delete.
Its fine, this is for discussion as well. The base is part painted, but part of the terrain renewal is to get this finished off so everyone has the option to play with it.
Excellent! Chris suggested a while ago that the base would be used on what was formerly the top table - the table opposite the door - and should only be used by players with fully-painted armies, to make a real showcase for the club. I think this would act as a good incentive right across the club for those lazy buggers (ie - me) who never get round to finishing off their painting.
As I have said in the past, when the time comes to update the boards my carpentry skills are freely available to create stronger "Piano" hinged boards that will still fold away nicely at the end of the day. I can also offer advice on the Sheet material of choice and the importance of balancing to prevent bowing :-P

That sounds awsome mate!

We had been tinking of ways to secure the boards better and piano hinges would be far better than anything I could have managed.
Are you down on Tuesday? Next time your about we can have a chat and look at getting something sorted.
Im sure everyone will be happy with a more sturdy playing surface.
Cheers,
Chris
Whilst we're on this kind of subject, can we have a platform for putting things to the committee? Like ideas, suggestions or questions about stuff?
Well, you can always come to any of us at the club, or you can pm us. Maybe we sort something out, I will chat with Nick, since he is managing the website at the moment.
By all means let any of us know in person or by PM. There is also a 'Feedback' section on the front page of the forum. That's probably the best place for suggestions, requests or just airing your views. That will also open up your comments to public discussion so anyone else with ideas can get involved.

Ah! That's the one I was looking for - man, what a dunce! Can you tell I've got a lot on my mind at the minute?
Thanks Nick!
I recall last time we had a Necromunda campaign there was talk of buying some cool Necromunda terrain (I can't remember the name of the company it was from). Can we lobby for some of that? it could also be useful for 40k and other game systems.

I saw this (

God-damn that's some pretty scenery. Seems like quite a bit of money, but the $300 set could host some big old gang fights.
First of, as I missed club this week

Ill say a bit on new boards. How soon are the council looking to replace them? Basically, I've just moved home and for a few weeks it will be the perfect place to router hinges into the boards and paint them ect (bear in mind routing hinges is
very dusty and we wont be able to do it on site) Transport is not a problem as I own a van!
My opinion on the scenery set Linked above....
Way over priced for the £195 plus god knows what in postage you can buy 10+ sheets of 4mm ply enough to make that set 20 times over! Also ply is not a good choice for scenery it has grain that will show through the paint job, it will have end grain that will be a nightmare to hide and if not carefully stored it will bow and de-laminate! (We store in a cold, damp beer cellar!)
So after dragging that through the mud

I propose Something similar but in MDF A £10 sheet will give loads of scenery, have no grain/end grain and be very strong and durable. the only limit is My router cant cut such fine detail but with cleaver planning and extra moddeling I think we could make an awsome set verry similar to that pictured in the link

Ok,
So have some good stuff happening in regards to the scenery atm and think it is about time we brought the discussions we have been having in the committee to the general forums for everyone to see and have a chance to comment on.

The plan
I chatted to a few of you about this last night but I’ll put a run down here for everyone to see:
We are looking to develop all new scenery sets, each with their own storage box and with a strong individual theme/concept
In the end this should leave us with 9 sets plus some smaller boxes to give additional flexibility.
These should break down between the different games systems as follows.
1. Fantasy
2. Fantasy
3. Fantasy
4. Premium Fantasy (To rival the Anphelion Base)
5. 40K
6. 40K
7. 40K
8.Premium 40K (Forge World Anphelion Base)
9. Urban (Necromunda/Infinity)
A. Hordes/WM expansion.
B. Fantasy Accessory pack (Walls, hedges, trees etc.)
C. 40K Accessory pack (Barricades, Bunkers, Tank Traps etc)
D. Misc (Money box, Clips, Maintenance kit, Lost Property, Dice, Tapes, Templates etc)
+ Necromunda scenery to expand another table for skirmish games. (Silver case)
However we will also look to develop tables sets in such a way that the amount & types of terrain, (Such as Area/LOS blocking/Linear etc.) could allow most to adapt to multiple game types.
Table concepts
So far we have the following concepts we could develop into tables:
Lost jungle temple.
Ork fortress
Ice plateau
Desert tomb
Gothic city
Volcanic wasteland
Reikland town
Gothic city
Sci fi dock/spaceport
Forest enclave
River Estuary
Fetid Swamp
Armoured graveyard
Bunker/trench complex
Tyranid infestation
Eldar ruins
If you have any other ideas for a table concept, then post these up and I will add them into the list.
I am now going to start building up a “Scrap book” for each table (i.e. an individual thread for each) consisting of links/images of possible terrain we could use, and images of tables & scenery others have used or made, which are relevant to that particular board. (Plus every ones thoughts, ideas and comments.)
From this we can then design and build sets to look great, pack away efficiently and that will be robust and hard wearing.
Terrain Sessions
I have the house to myself for the next few weeks and will set aside some days to begin work on refurbishing existing terrain and starting the new tables.
I had felt this was a task for the committee but as there has been a lot of interest expressed from many members I’ll let everyone know when they are and anyone interested is welcome to come along to help out and enjoy a few beers etc while we work.
If you’re interested PM me and I’ll send you a map and my phone details
The first session will be this Sunday afternoon and I’ll be working on the rest of the FW Anphelion base and our GW Empire buildings.
Kind regards,
Chris
