So, with the release of Fantasy 8th on the horizon, who's up for mustering an army over the next few months in that good ol' fashioned White Dwarf way - a tale of x gamers?

For those of you that aren't familiar (unlikely, I know), the idea is that a set number of players agree to go about building and painting an army, to theme, bit by bit each month to an agreed limit (either price or points), keeping their results as a log online? We could use either the forum here, or give the club a bit of publicity by using a larger forum like Warseer or DakkaDakka....

We could tie the armies into the terrain in a more narrative fashion: given that the Premium Fantasy Table ™ will be a part of Reikland, it'd be nice to reflect that in the forces, and build up a map of the area using the Mighty Empires tiles, &c.

Let me know if you're tentatively interested.
Im well up for this! Ill be collecting BeatOrks sorry, OrkMen no no, Beastmen lol Hard choice! I have not played WH since 3rd or 4th ed so need re-teaching along the way!
Yes, same here - I haven't played since the first Kirby box (whatever edition that was...) so I'll be as rusty as Rusty Lee.
I would be up for this. I am looking into getting in to WFB and thought 8th edition would be a good time to start. I am thinking of going with night goblins or skaven.
A log would help me get the stuff painted
Weirdly, I was also contemplating both Night Goblins and Skaven... I'll probably just stick to my Nurgle cult, though, I think.
I hope by "my Nurgle cult" you don't mean you have already started! Tongue

Oo, erm... no... Dodgy
we will need an independent adjudicator, To ensure all is fair and all painting should be to a min standard like tournie, 3 colour and a textured base sort of thing, maybe a bit higher like shaded and min detail to face maybe...
I'm up for this, I will be going halves on the boxed set with gareth (who will be coming to the club this Tuesday). Rumours are that it is skaven and high elves in the box, so I will be taking the High Elves.
If we can do it gradually I can make a start on the high elves, but I have a lot of other projects on at the moment which I want to finish off too, so I won't be getting much more than like 250 points every month or so (if that).
Yep - I think 250pts per month would probably be the standard.
250 sounds like a good amount. Yesterday I spent a few hours going through both the skaven book and the Orc book. I made a few sample lists, read all the fluff etc and I still cant not decide.

In that case you can count me in.
Any ideas when this might start? I might have a commission coming in, which means I could get sidetracked from any personal painting projects for a month or two. Funnily enough it would be a warhammer fantasy battle commission lol.

Id suggest around the WH 8th ed release day, Some of us can use the box contents and we all need the new rules to begin playing with our armies so we can figure out what the next 250 pts will be
I heard the new starter set for 8th edition WFB with HE and Skaven wont be out till September.

As I already have a Ork army for 40k I have decided to give Skaven a try for WFB. My wallet and paintbrush is hating me for it, as it seems most 2000 point lists involve around 200 models which is about £150 just on Core troops.
I think for now, we'll see ho many people are interested, and then take things from there. Maybe starting July?
I'd be interested in this the perfect exscuse I need to start a new whfb army
So a quick question - how are you going to determine what you are going to collect when you dont know what the rules are?

My understanding is that there will be a shift in composition of armies. For example 50% of the army MUST be made up of core choice troops. 25% lord/hero choice, 25% any thing else.

The other things is are the current army books valid?

The latest few Army books will be 8th ED anyway, GW always do that Tongue, We are starting in or after july so the rules will be out,
You cant go wrong with a few Core units to start you off, so composition would not matter anyway and as we said we will do it in 250pts chunks so your not likely to break the end 2000pts list with it even if you bought all rare units

Exactly, since we are starting when the book releases we will all be able to form our armies then, but even if we weren't, I cant believe that buying 250pts would be invalidated by the rules changes.

I am interested in getting involved. I will just be finishing up with the WM/H ETC so it will be a good time for a break. I would like to do skaven, but I do not know if I can keep pace with 250pts of those (that is a lot of clanrats). I might choose another force. I was tempted by a goblin force, but again, numbers will be a problem. or WoC might be tempting with all the plastics they now have.
