I don't understand how someone can do an army list in their head for 40k or WFB. There is no way you can compute everything up there and work it out to be accurate. You must have an army list. I can understand with WM and hordes, since I do those in my head now, but then you have all the cards there so your opponent can just add it up himself if he wants.
Model surfing is so bad. The worst is when I know someone is over 12" away, and he surfs in the movement phase, so it doesn't seem crucial, then he pretends to accurately measure it in the assault phase, which is just bullshit, and you can't contest it then. I do bug my opponents about it sometimes, but it just makes it uncomfortable playing.
Yeah, I can't do army lists for those games in my head. I can put a theme together but I need something to write it down with.
I think were pretty lucky at the club as we don't really have a high cunt ratio. Or any cunts that I've met. Which is fucking awesome.
I say when you notice the surf, just point it out and get them to re-measure as soon as possible. It stops people from getting tetchy especially if they seem like knobs. I say bug them, as it's the best way to go about fixing things during a game.
I'm with you on the army list thing - it's just manners really to have a list that your opponent can check. I say that having been in the horrible position once of inadvertently cheating against Oli (and I think Andres?) by having a 35 point list with 37 points in it. I did the list in my head on the tube coming from work, and was too much of a lazy shite to actually write it down and check when I got to the pub.

Tell me about it. I once played a game of 40k years ago with a Chaos Lord with 200ish points of upgrades until my opponent pointed out that you can't do that. I immediately made him commit suicide as the chaos gods ravaged his mind and turned him into goo. :|

I really wish I had some sort of device that would allow me to make army lists anywhere, irrespective of location. Some sort of space age army list calculator that works in space and that does not require the use of pen and paper. That would be perfect.

You could expand on that. Maybe make it so you could contact people on the go to arrange games, and have a alarm on it, or a diary.

Definitely! That's an awesome idea! But it would have to be portable and smaller than a Barcode Battler or Sega Game Gear. Also all the functions would have to be super smooth and really easy to use.
I'd have to call it the Power Gaming Organiser Xtreme Edition Plus. I would come in only one colour, hot pink. Unless you bought the Turbo edition which is in electric blue and comes in a titanium case to stop it from breaking. Also the Turbo edition would operate under 4000ft of water. The Turbo's screen is made of Corundum and outer casing would be a mix of Titanium and Paladium. The battery life on the Turbo would be approx, 10 years though that would vary with Solar Power panelling integrated behind the screen.
To update the PGOXEP you'd have to go to your local Ambassador. As every country has one at least, people would find this easily accessible. To update the game stats for GW games you would have to get a endorsement from the Head of GW Belguim.

Yes, we used calculators to double check our mental arithmetic was on form.
I did actually make a list prior to leaving, but left it at home lol
I agree though, doesn't take much to write up a list for your opponent.

Just read the battle report, I can't believe you didn't finish! It sounds pretty tense, though I guess it was looking bad at the end. Vish, you definitely need to read the rules for ETC on painting and time keeping, since this is where you might run into problems. If you are aware of it though I am sure you will play like a daemon! I am looking forward to more stuff from you. I am always interested to read more articles about WM/H.
I was gonna play my turn but Jon said it was pretty moot as Skarre was in a real bad position with no Focus or spells up on her at the end and I had a lot of my army left to fight with.
Yeah, I'm building my army today. And then I'll get painting all this week. In fact, your Penguino is gonna help loads as I do loads of painting at night.
I usually play pretty fast (I used to play Hardcore with 43 models) but the constant breaks for cigarettes and beer slowed me down immensely.
Marcus, we should play again some time as we can use the rules from the Tournament booklet. So the game would be pretty different as you'd be trying to get in to go for the assassination and winning the objectives and I'd have to defend against that or aim to grab the objectives myself.
The question is, do you have an Digital Egg Timer?
I have a timer on my phone which I can use to measure it. The tournie uses chess clocks like temple con, so it will be interesting to play with those. I am thinking we need to try and simulate these to get a feel for it. Maybe we get a game next week, I am playing Oli tomorrow. I cannot wait to see your stuff painted. You are going to have to take a black and white pinguino since that is all I have in stock. I hope that is ok. I will get it tonight to bring tomorrow.
Awesomesauce, that's sounds wicked. I'm cool for the black and white one because Penguins come in black and white too. I'm thinking that for the rest of the month I'll be playing with a phone timer to get used to it too.
