How good was leafblower? Well there's a link at the bottom to an April article asking people to stop playing it for the love of the hobby
Honestly though the IG codex is so strong (*cough* cheesy *cough*) that I seriously doubt someone couldn't come up with a more optimised list than that.
I'm not looking forward to that day lol
Personally I think lists like this take a lot of the fun out of wargaming because you instantly know some armies just cannot cope with it. You can count out any slightly outdated codex. It's cheesier than a sun-ripened gorgonzola left to fester in some old man's crusty socks.
I know my ork army would have a problem cracking all that armour. Not sure how many of these lists you would see at a normal gaming club due to the cost of all that armour.
The IG codex is very strong with the sheer amount of AV12 it can put out.
That's a rock solid list: I don't like it, but it's solid and I can't imagine what could stand up to it...
One of ther reasons my Valhallans play on foot, its bad enough facing marines hiding in tanks the entire game
The reason the leafblower list is so despised is not that some lists will have trouble with it - it's that everyone will have difficulty with it. It can deal with infantry, tanks, outflankers, deepstrikers, it can hold objectives, deny objectives, whatever you come up with it can just deny you involvement in the game.
The only good thing about it is that to get the full effect (per the BoLS style build) is that you need to be up at around 2000 points, and it works best at 2500 ie Ard Boys lists. At 1500 you just can't get in enough of the overlapping evilness for the full effect.
I now hate IG like I hate WFB Empire gunlines. 1. Deploy. 2. Shoot stuff. 3. Pack up. Fun...
I Agree with Nick on this one, Yanks play at too high a points value 1500 or 1750 makes for a challenging list build, at 2500 you get too much choice, hell Orks can max every troop slot amassing 180 boys with rokkits and PK nobs! and still have 1000 pts to play with! that's ridiculous! There is also only so much important tank busting stuff you can fit in an Ork list based on the FOC, hell your 500 pts short of Apoc rules!
I think GW's "aim" is all lists balance at 1500pts, id guess they only really play test at that size as they don't have time to test and tweak at all possible game sizes, plus the UK GT has been based on 1500pts for years. they have also announced they are changing all GT rules to be the same globally, I think its possible they raise to 1750 but likely all others will drop to meet ours.
1500 forces you to pick your troops tactically to counter the missions you might face and the opponent. I like the restrictions. But it's nice to play epic fun games that have a little more narrative in them. Not so into competitive play really though.
Aye,
Epic, Fun = Apoc or likewise
1500pts = fun challenge / tourney
