GW has put up all the new rule books and accessories. Here is a

I am quite impressed. GW have really done a fantastic job of providing really interesting stuff along side the release of the new rulebooks. The kits are expensive, but I think the Gamers addition is worth it if you like everything. I think the Collectors addition is a bit expensive, I would have put it at around £55-£65 and I would have definitely got it. It is beautiful though.
The new templates are amazingly cool and I definitely think I will be getting some of those. The counters set is ok, but I probably will not fork out for them. The Calipers are very nice and, though expensive, would be really useful. You can check the charge distance accurately for those crucial moves and it will stop some unscrupelous players from doing range finding with this. I will probably pick these up for warmachine as well, where they would be really useful.
The dice are nice, but I already have about 1000 dice (no lie, I got them for £20 from a dice manufacturer), I dont need any more. The magic cards are very handy, and £6 is a reasonable price for these.
All in all a very nice release, and I am looking forward picking up some of this stuff
Lastly, look at this little photo I found of our agent on the inside, minus_t!

Haha! I thought that was Tom!
Yes, the new kits are LOVELY. Especially the measuring equipment and templates. Very nice indeed. I still can't get over the size of the rulebook, though, it's enormous: let's hope that this is some indication that there won't be another edition in a few years time, and actually, it's quite a good price for a tome that size (provided the company have sorted out their binding issues and they don't fall apart like some of their other larger books).
Sorry, yes, ramble.
No way! Big T and his fancy man bag in da house!
Oh, and also, just a quick note. As many of you know, Ol (FatOlaf) from OG Games is doing a great price for the preorders on these. Price is TBC, but will be in the region of 17.5% off. This will also include free delivery to the club if a few of us place an order.
The new boxed set is not due out until later (August we hope, possibly September), but we will hopefully see a similar deal at that time as well.
Pre order for the new book is on OGGAMES, great price! get in there quick!
WOW Full colour rule book its only taken, what? 27 years!!
The boys at the D6G will be pleased!!
I got a look at the book yesterday, and it is a lovely piece of work. I only had a few minutes to flick through, so can't really comment on the rules changes, but the bits and pieces I did pick up on suggest that the current consolidated rumour thread on Warseer is basically spot on.
Mainly I just wanted to say the book is lovely. It is indeed a huge lump to carry around (hands up, I thought 528 pages was a typo originally as well) so I can see the mini rulebooks from Island of Blood being quite valuable.
Lots of pretty pictures, loads of background material, much of it completely new. What I was really blown away by is the fact that they have really tried to include everything you will need to play a game in one book (obv other than your army book). There are much more comprehensive rules for scenarios, how to set up a game - even things like an optional random terrain table. There are also historical recreations of battles from the Warhammer timeline, themed for each of the armies, which is a nice touch.
Also, the new magic lores are mental. The balance looks about right in that there are some VERY powerful spells in there, but they have equally high casting values - 20+ is common for the top spells and they go as high as 25+. The magic system is more more flexible and interesting as well, as each of the book lores has internal synergies; unlike 7th where you basically had a list of spells and cast what you thought would be useful, you now have to think about what will work well togther. Some lores give you bonuses if you target the same unit multiple times, etc. Lore of Life (I think) has a spell that does nothing itself, but means subsequent castings from the same lore get boosted. Also many spells can be cast at multiple levels, increasing versatility.
This is just the bits of the book I had time to really look at (oh, and the magic items list is mental - over 80 common items! with some horrid combos possible...). I'm not a huge GW fanboi, but this edition feels like the thing to pull me back into WFB after the recent fiasco of 7th and the uber army books.
Sounds like magic heavy High Elves will be potent then!

I think High Elves are going to be pretty hardcore again. Which kind of feels right to me.
So long as they don't get bogged down by weight of numbers they ought to be the most elite army really.
I think HE feel like they should be a pretty competitive army. Getting ASF + Hatred against most enemies is great. Stepping up may hurt them back a bit though (less chance of wiping out a front rank and avoiding being hit). Shooting's also taken a bit of a bump, and HE's lack of skirmishers compared to their tree-hugging and goth cousins is less of an issue.
Also, I don't think there's going to be such a thing as 'magic-heavy' any longer. A level 4 and three level 2s won't have any more power dice than a single level 1, barring bonus ice from items. They will have many more spells available to them, and will be casting and dispelling with an extra little bit on each one, but it's nothing like the discrepancy in 7th between armies with lots of magic offence, and say one scroll caddy. I suspect most people will turn up with no more than two sorcerers for casting purposes; maybe a bit more depending if they want access to more points worth of items. And there are some very cool new items, such as multiple different types of scrolls. Basic dispel scrolls still work; but there are others which don't dispel the cast, but do damage to the caster, or drain the number of power dice as dispel dice, or even turn the caster into a frog!
