GW rereased FAQ for 8ed.

How do you see your army now?
I'm happy with 40 LD10 stubborn slaves. Tongue On the other hand Gate cast on 8 is a damn scarry thing.
i only just got the book this morning and im trying to read through the rules but good to see the faqs are out too and TK's magic aint changed much.

how come gateway is cast on an 8 now?
Hmmm. Some interesting stuff there. They've cleared up the High Elf ASF with Great Weapons question very elegantly, which is good.

They've also dealt with some (though not all) of the perennial abuses eg Dark Elf Pendant, Ring of Hotek, Bladewind attacks not getting Hatred etc. Cauldron of Blood rules are now strange - it looks like it's lost Terror (which makes sense because it can't charge) but NOT got Fear. Also the Hags can no longer challenge. The CoB seems to have taken a sizeable hit.

WoC stuff - not much new in there, just lots of tidying-up of badly written rules (ie basically the whole book! Wink)

It deals in interminable detail with the Eye of the Gods, which is still frustratingly not very good; but at least is now clear; the Warshrine also hasn't suddenly gone from Meh to Brilliant after all - because in spite of its unit type, it does not get Thunderstomp. VERY p*ssed off at that. And the Daemon Prince is still about 100% overcosted.

Overall though, I'm pleased this has arrived so promptly and seems to have a better 'sensible to bullshit' answers ratio than previous AB FaQs. Roll on the BRB Errata/FaQs so I know whether or not Dragon Ogres really are as bad as they look now!

Lord Sorcerer gives 4 to cast for being lvl 4 wizard, 1 for being Tzeentch, 1 for Skull of Katam, D3 to cast for Conjoined Homunuculus (once a turn, but still). That gives bonus of 7 to 9 for casting Infernal Gate. So it is effectively 6 to 8 to cast. Smile
Ouch!
Add +1 to that by giving the L4 the Book of Ashur, and a nearby L2 the Skull as well.
Just had a read of the skaven one and not that happy with the changes to the doomwheel. They got rid of rolling doom and gave it random movement. So it works like the Abom now. It cant wheel it can only move in a straight line now. Also if it goes off the board it use to be able to come back on, but now it is destroyed.
I like this! Big Grin Pesky rats with wheels of doom! Wink
I'm very concerned about Steam Tanks - I don't think I have anything in my list to take one on.
Don't worry, I think we just need a club house rule that nobody brings one to a friendly game. On the basis that nobody has anything to deal with them now ... Sad
Hmmm... magic?
Cannons?
Surely they can do some damage to them?
It's pretty retarded, really - especially as there's still the option for someone to take two.
They also got rid of the skaven rule that aloud you to fire into close combat if it involved skaven slaves. Not sure why they removed this, it was fluffy and fun.

Eh? That's really stupid. That was a great rule.
You can still do it with posion wind globadiers as they have a special rule for it. But for some reason they removed the sentence in the slave section that aloud any skaven shooting to do it. It was pretty effect with Warpfire throwers .

Cannons will do - so expect to see a lot of, uhm, Empire!

There isn't as much magic as you'd imagine, though, as only anything with an S value (and then only S10) stands a good chance of doing it damage.
That's the problem. There's really only one thing that can do it with any reliability - and that's five to six cannon shots (allowing for misfires and only wounding on 4+).

Given that most armies don't get access to cannons, and the main one is the same army that will ALSO have a stank or two, it leaves most non-Empire armies SOOL.

There's very little magic that will do the job due to ignoring anything without S, and auto-passing stat tests. ie you need to do hits and get past the T10 1+ armour. Just like shooting and combat; and just as long-winded and resource-intensive; and therefore just as likely to leave you losing due to throwing your entire army at a single model that's only there so that you'll throw your army at it while the rest of his pew-pews you to death.

By way of example, average shooting ie BS3 S3 at short range, will require on average 720 shots to kill it. So if you have a hundred archers doing nothing else than shooting it, they still won't kill it in six turns.

I have been told (although I haven't seen) that this is because there is now a section in the rulebook for shooting into combat. Therefore the removal of those 2 sentences is not removing the expendable rule, but getting rid of how shooting is randomised. It is instead randomised as per the new rules. I could be totally wrong though as I have not yet got my paws on the new rulebook, so please verify that one before quoting me.

I have to say the Skaven FAQ is pretty huge now. I may have to chop it up and pritt-stick the sentences into my Army Book just so I can remember all the cursed changes!

I honestly think they should be withdrawn to Legendary Battles. I mean, there's only supposed to be, what, four or five of them left in the Old World anyway, no?
Maybe now that they've changed things around so that a tooled up bloodthirster is no longer the be-all end-all gribbly (as you can't fit it in at 2k) they just reckon something else has to take its place. Voila - the Stank, the model that you will never see except at uncomped tournaments, and at those every single army will have two.

Funhammer to da max, yo.
